Tzintzuntzan Semana Santa
Tzintzuntzan Easter
Pavel Rodríguez, 2006, 24'
A visual compilation of religious fervor during Easter week in the Tzintzuntzan community in Mexico, from 1996 to 2006. The testimonies of the carriers at the Soledad Temple reveal the importance of the spiritual image known as The Holy Burial.

Atltzatzilistli / Pidiendo Agua
Praying for water
José Luis Matías, 2000, 18'
The Nahua Indians from Acatlán, Guerrero, south of Mexico, ask for water scarifying a hen, organizing tiger fights, whip-lashing that imitate lightning and thunder. They invoke the wind that brings the clouds of water to germinate the corn and have a good crop. This video is the testimony of this tradition.
Día 2
Day 2
Dante Cerrano, 2005, 32'
Día 2 is an idiosyncratic and irreverent take on the second day of a P'urhepecha indigenous wedding ceremony in Michoacan. The film won the Best Artistic Creation Award at the 7th Festival Americano de Cine y Video de Pueblos Indígenas in Chile in 2004. Cerano is one of the few indigenous directors in Mexico to work with fiction.

INDIGENOUS CINEMA
A great chance to immerse yourself into the traditions and values of the indigenous communities of Mexico. The block comprises predominantly films made by the indigenous themselves. Through them, the festival uncovers the fascinating personal views on their traditions, their problems and the transformations they are facing. This section is subdivided in specific sub-themes: Celebrations, Traditions, Rites, Language and Resistance. Guest indigenous filmmaker Yolanda Cruz will give a master class and will participate in a discussion at the University of Amsterdam. Please the debate program for the description of this event.
