We, who speak the complete language
Bernardo Porraz, 2008, Documentary, 12' Two young Triki students attending a Bilingual College of the Mexican state of Oaxaca see Al Gore's documentary film An Inconvenient Truth . Seeking to share this environmental message with their community as well as promote the use of the Nanj Nï'ïn language (also known as Triki) in new spaces, the students decided to make a voice-over of the film into their language. They carry out a series of workshops and consultations within the community in order to recover words that were no longer in use and to generate new words that they now propose to the Triki community of Yuma' Niko (San Andrés Chicahuaxtla) and neighboring towns. |

Nicolás Rojas, 2008, 36' This film tells us the current situation Mixtec language and the education system in Mexico. Traditions were passed by word, sometimes familiar, sometimes distant. Faced with this situation, young boy Emilio cannot decide which path to follow: one stretches to the past, before his grandparents, the other is a path laid out by the national society. Emilio will have to choose based on social criteria; it is society who lays down the first hurdle. |

Through this radio station the Civil Society Las Abejas, in Los Altos region of Chiapas, are able to strengthen their fight for justice and defend their language and cultural identity. |
INDIGENOUS CINEMA
A great chance to immerse yourself into the traditions and values of
the indigenous communities of Mexico. The block comprises predominantly films made
by the indigenous themselves. Through them, the festival uncovers the fascinating
personal views on their traditions, their problems and the transformations they are
facing. This section is subdivided in specific sub-themes: Celebrations, Traditions,
Rites, Language and Resistance. Guest indigenous filmmaker Yolanda Cruz will give a
master class and will participate in a discussion at the University of Amsterdam.
